BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar men's tennis team will be playing for all three singles championships on Sunday at the Ron Wesbrooks Invitational.
The Cardinals had a strong showing Saturday on the second day of the annual event hosted at the Thompson Family Tennis Center on the Lamar campus.
Sunday's events will get under way with the doubles finals at 9 a.m., followed by singles matches at 10 a.m.
In the top flight, Lamar's Nikita Lis will square off against Juan Cruz Soria of Texas-Pan American for the title. Lis went 3-0 in pool play after winning his two matches on Saturday.
Also at first singles, Lamar's Jeandre Hoogenboezem will meet Hector Ramirez of Texas-Pan American for fifth place.
At second singles, Lamar's Juuso Laitinen takes on Coby Jansen of Texas-Pan American for the title. Laitinen won a pair of straight-set victories on Saturday to finish at 3-0 in pool play.
Also at second singles, Lamar's Mikko Rajamaki faces Tucker Brown of Incarnate Word for third place.
At third singles, Lamar's Steve McMullan faces Jonah Candelario of Tyler Junior College for the crown. McMullan rallied for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Miguel Alvarez Hevia in the semifinals.
"We had a great showing today," Lamar coach Scott Shankles said. "We need to carry that into Sunday.
Admission to Sunday's competition is free.
