Oct. 19, 2014 COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Lamar’s Nikita Lis advanced to the Round of 32 at the USTA-ITA Regional Men’s Tennis Championships on Saturday.
Lis, the No. 16 seed, received a first-round bye before defeating Juan Cruz-Soria of UTPA by a 6-2, 6-3 score in the round of 64. Lis is slated to face Alexandru Buzelan of Texas Tech in the round of 32 on Sunday.
Lis also had success in doubles competition with teammate Michael Feucht. The Lamar duo, the No. 7 seed in the event, earned a first-round bye before scoring an 8-6 victory over Maxwell Andrews and Adam Gustafsson of Rice in the round of 32. Lis and Feucht square off against the Baylor duo of Diego Galeano and Vincent Schneider in the round of 16 on Sunday afternoon.
Lamar’s Steven McMullan won his first-round singles match as he defeated Blake Wiggins of TCU 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. McMullan dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to second-seeded Harrison Adams of Texas A&M in the second round.
