LU Doubles Team Advances to Semifinals

Oct. 19, 2014

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Lamar's doubles team of Nikita Lis and Michael Feucht remains in the hunt for a regional title, picking up two wins, including one over a top-25 team Sunday at the ITA Regional Championships in College Station, Texas. The two wins put Lamar's duo in the semifinals.

Before Lis stepped on the court for his first doubles match of the day, he was still playing in the singles main draw. Lis squared off against Texas Tech's Alexandru Buzelen. Lamar's sophomore made quick work of Buzelen, 6-1, 6-1, to remain alive in the main draw. The victory placed Lis in the ITA's round of 16 where he faced No. 5 overall seed from Texas, Soren Hess-Olesen. Lis battled the Longhorn tough throughout the match but dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision.

Lis returned to action in doubles competition where he teamed up with Feucht to take on Baylor's Diego Galeano and Vincent Schneider. Lamar's sophomore tandem recorded a hard fought 8-5 victory to advance to the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals, LU's duo faced Texas A&M's 23rd-ranked team of Harrison Adams and Shane Vinsant. In almost a mirror image of the previous match Feucht and Lis pulled off the upset with an 8-5 victory. They will return to action Monday for their semifinal matchup against TCU's Trevor Johnson and Cameron Norrie.

Feucht also advanced to the semifinal round of the consolation singles bracket. He defeated Texas Tech's Hunter Holman, 6-1, 6-1, to advance to the semifinals where he will take on Rice's Gustavo Gonzalez Monday morning.

Update:

Feucht won the Round of 128 consolation championship on Monday by defeating Trevor Johnson of TCU 6-3, 7-6 (2). Feucht advanced to the consolation finals with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Gonzalez of Rice.
