HAMMOND, La. - Jacob Fisher drove in three runs, and Justin Boudreaux hit a home run Sunday afternoon as Southeastern Louisiana defeated Lamar University 5-1 to win the weekend's Southland Conference series between the teams, two games to one.
Junior right-hander Josh Janway, who blanked the Cardinals on seven hits over the first five innings, got the pitching victory to move to 3-0 on the season. Junior right-hander Shane Hamaker, who yielded six hits and four runs over the first four innings, was the loser, falling to 4-3 on the season.
With the win, the Lions improved to 19-10 on the season and 7-5 in the SLC. The Cardinals' records fell to 19-12 overall and 7-5 in the league.
After falling behind by five runs over the first six innings, the Cardinals pushed across an unearned run in the seventh. Third baseman Pablo Salinas singled to left field with one out and came around to score on Clayton Farhat's pinch-hit single and an error in right field by Britt Gautreaux.
The Cardinals got at least one hit in each of the first six innings and finished with nine. Salinas went 2-for-4 as did cemterfielder Ted Zentek.
Boudreaux's sixth home run of the season, which traveled over the leftfield fence, put the Lions up 2-0 in the third inning. They got on the board initially in the second inning when Gautreaux and Cody Gougler drew back-to-back, two-out walks and Fisher drove in Gautreaux with a single to centerfield.
Fisher, the Lions' starting catcher, got his other two runs batted in with a single to centerfield with one out in the fourth inning. Gautreaux, who had walked, and Gougler, who doubled to left field, crossed the plate to increase the Lions' lead to 4-0.
The Lions padded their cushion to 5-0 in the sixth inning when Gougler walked, stole second base and came around to score on Brock Hebert's double into the gap in left centerfield.
The Cardinals will take a break from SLC play Wednesday when they'll oppose the University of Houston in a 6:30 p.m. game at Houston's 3,500-seat Cougar Field.
