Anthony Miles earns second straight Southland POW

BEAUMONT -- Lamar senior guard Anthony Miles was named the Southland Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league office announced Monday.

Miles helped Lamar finish 1-1 on the week, beginning with a 77-72 loss at TCU and finishing with a decisive 80-63 home win over Louisiana-Lafayette.

The Clear Brook (Houston) High School product led a strong rally at TCU that came up just short, finishing with 21 points to tie for the team lead. Miles shot a solid 7-of-10 from the floor, including hitting both of his 3-point attempts, while adding a season-high seven rebounds and three assists.

Miles followed the TCU game with 16 points against the Ragin' Cajuns. He added six rebounds and matched a season-high with eight assists. Miles' aggressive play led to 12 trips to the free throw line where he connected nine times.

For the week, Miles averaged 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists. In the two games, Miles made 10-of-17 shots from the floor (58.8 percent), 3-of-4 from 3-point range (75.0 percent) and 14-of-18 free throws (77.8 percent).

Miles is currently third in the Southland Conference in scoring average at 17.0 points per game, and he has moved to the top of the league rankings in assists per game at 4.6. He has scored in double-figures in five straight games and stands fifth in the Southland in 3-point percentage at 52.9 percent.
