        BEAUMONT - Houston Baptist University roughed up seven Lamar University pitchers for 17        hits Wednesday afternoon in pulling away to a 12-4 victory over the Cardinals.
        In winning the series two games to zero, the Huskies outscored the Cardinals 14-4 and        outhit them 21-15. The Huskies' 17 hits in Wednesday's finale matched the high yielded by        the Cardinals this season (in a 10-9 loss to North Dakota State).
        The Huskies rocked Lamar starter Tommy        Roebuck for three runs and three hits, including a pair of triples by Paul Prestera and        Johnathon Moore, in the first inning.
        The Cardinals narrowed the deficit to one by scoring two third-inning runs. The first        crossed on an RBI groundout by Quentin        Luquette, and the second came in on a sacrifice fly by Wade        Mathis.
        The Huskies stretched their lead to 7-2 with a four-run fifth, and the best the        Cardinals could muster after that was a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. Aaron        Buchanan scored the first run on a bases-loaded wild pitch committed by winning pitcher        Jay Reese, and Luquette accounted for the second with a sacrifice fly.
        Buchanan, Anthony        Moore and Andy Mena        contributed two hits each to Lamar's eight-hit attack. Josh Gonzales led HBU by going        3-for-5.
        While the loss - Lamar's third straight - dropped the Cardinals to 17-13 on the season,        the Huskies improved to 10-14.
        Coach Jim        Gilligan's Cardinals will have only one day to regroup before opening a crucial        three-game Southland Conference series at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday night. At        4-8 in their league games, the Cards are tied for ninth place with the Islanders in the        standings.
