Nickens, Swift Added To Lamar Soccer Staff

Lamar head women's soccer coach Dewi Hardman has announced that Angie Nickens and Chris Swift will complete his staff for the 2009 season.

Nickens will serve as the assistant coach while Swift will be a volunteer assistant in charge of coaching the goalkeepers.

Nickens joins the coaching staff following a six-year stint as a player and staff member at TCU in Fort Worth, Texas. She served as the Director of Operations for the Horned Frog program in 2008, following her time as a midfielder who was recruited and played for coach Hardman when he was at TCU.

The four year letterwinner played in 73 matches from 2003-07 and made 56 starts. She scored six goals and assisted on five over her career with one game-winning goal in 2007 as a senior against New Mexico.

She was a four-time academic all-conference selection and received honorable mention honors for the Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup in 2008 and the Dutch Meyer Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2008. Nickens earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology in 2007 before obtaining her master's degree in educational administration in 2009.

The Dallas native prepped at J.J. Pearce High School where she was a three-time all-district player and team offensive MVP. She also was named Freshman of the Year at Pearce.

Swift spent the past year as the goalkeepers coach with the Los Angeles Legends in their inaugural season in the United Soccer Leagues' W-League.

He played collegiately at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, Calif. where he was a three-time Academic All-Golden State Athletic Conference and NAIA Scholar-Athlete recipient. During his time with the Lions, he collected 138 saves, 13 wins and posted four shutouts in goal. Swift was a member of the 2004 Vanguard team that won the GSAC championship.

Swift's coaching experience includes working with San Juan Hills High School, Aliso Niguel High School and the United Football Club.

He graduated from Vanguard with a Bachelor's degree in History/Political Science in 2006. His wife Marissa, is also a former VU women's goalkeeper.
