PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -- The Lamar women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Prairie View A&M at the Panther Soccer Field on Friday night in their lone exhibition game of the preseason.
The Lady Cardinals held a substantial edge in shots - approximately 15-3 - but gave up two goals on miscommunications in the defensive end of the field.
"We didn't play well at times and had a couple of simple mistakes that they capitalized on and that was the difference in the game," Lamar head coach Dewi Hardman said.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, Prairie View got on the board with a goal two minutes into the second half.
Lamar tied the game around the 60th minute when Grace Bowman fed a through-ball to Lorna Maudslay who made a nice move to beat the Lady Panthers' goalkeeper.
But Prairie View countered just a few minutes later with the eventual game winner.
Hardman did praise the efforts of three true freshmen - Grace Bowman, Julia Niess and Lisa Topping - all of whom played the entire 90 minutes.
Lamar will open the regular-season at Louisiana Tech next Friday, Aug. 21. Kickoff at the brand new Lady Techster Soccer Field is set for 5 p.m.
