From the opening tip when Huston-Tillotson dropped five into its own backcourt and conceded to play defense, Lamar controlled the game from start-to-finish in a 106-65 win at the Montagne Center on Saturday night.
About the only drama came late in the game when Kenny Dawkins was approaching a triple double - something only accomplished at Lamar by Lamar Sanders two seasons ago. Instead Dawkins finished the game with 23 points, a career-high 10 assists, seven rebounds and six steals.
Lamar (8-3) has six players reach double figures in scoring, including all five starters. Brandon McThay had 18 points, Ashton Hall had a breakout game with a career-high 17 points, while Jay Brown and Anthony Miles added 15 and 12, respectively. Brown posted his second double-double of the year with 13 rebounds.
HTU scored the first basket of the game on a D'mond Grismore bucket and didn't find the scoring column again for nearly five minutes, during which Lamar went on a 19-0 run. LU made eight of its first 12 shots with assists on seven of them.
The Cardinals used an 8-0 later in the period and led 32-10 with 8:33 left in the half. LU led by as many as 28 and took a 56-29 lead into the locker room.
Lamar had an 11-0 stretch in the second half and held its largest lead at 100-52 with 2:38 remaining.
Not only did the Cardinals score 106 points - its most this year, they shot a season-high 56 percent from the floor and handed out a season-best 25 assists opposite just nine turnovers.
The LU defense was equally impressive, holding HTU to 20 points below its average, while grabbing 14 steals off 19 Ram turnovers.
Lamar will be off for the Christmas holiday and return home to face St. Gregory's on Monday, Dec. 29 at 7:05 p.m.
