EL PASO, Texas - The Lamar University women's tennis team dropped their first of three weekend matches in El Paso on Friday, falling to North Florida 4-2.
The Lady Cardinals and Ospreys battled snow and sleet for most of the afternoon on Friday, but finally hit the courts late in the day. The match was restricted to singles play only as the match was decided without the need for the doubles point with UNF handing Lamar a 4-2 loss.
The Lady Cardinals two wins came from Manijee Ashrafi who defeated Ina Durcakova 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, while Manami Kuroda handed Robin Rogers a 7-5, 6-1 loss at No. 6.
North Florida's Natalia Sanchez, upended LU's Kaltrina Harbuzi 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5) at No. 1 singles, UNF's Vanessa Sanchez defeated Lamar's Tanya Roberts, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 2 position, while UNF's Florencia Torres won 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 position over Maria Gutierrez. Catalina Castillo also won for the Lady Ospreys, knocking off Pamela Martinez, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 4 singles.
