BEAUMONT - The Lamar University men's tennis team picked up their second consecutive victory Friday afternoon, taking down the Centenary Gentelman 5-2 at the Cardinal Courts.
The Cardinals picked up the doubles point to open the match, but the Gentelman made the m work hard for the 1-0 advantage. The duo of Filip Kanczula and Maciej Bogusz squeezed out a 9-7 win at No. 1 over Josh Pinto and Russ Patrick, while Brett Sticker and Tyler Cobb dropped a close contest with Dylan Dyer and Arthur Okura, falling 9-8 (7-3). The Cards insured the doubles point with the victory at No. 1 singles, as Centenary defaulted at No.3 doubles.
In singles play the Cardinals received a come 7-6, 6-1 win from Kanczula over Josh Pinto at No. 1. The sophomore fell behind early in set one, but fought back to take the win. Bogusz had a dominant performance at No.2 singles , taking out Dyer 6-0, 6-1
The Cards also picked up wins from Sticker and Cobb, who won in the five and six spots respectively. Sticker posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Seva Kostelanet, while Cobb won by default at No. 6.
The Gentleman picked up a pair of win s in doubles play, with Russ Patrick winning 6-2, 6-2 over Wesley Arnold at No. 3, and Arthur Okura winning 6-3, 7-5 over Hays at No. 4.
The Cardinal men will be in action again Saturday morning when they take on Alcorn State at 9 a.m. at the Cardinal Courts.
