NATCHITOCHES, La. – Lamar University junior Arina Gudovskaya brought home two flight championships – a singles and doubles title – from the Cardinals season-opening fall tournament in Natchitoches, La. Saturday afternoon. Gudovskaya was one of three Cardinals who advanced to the title round of their respective singles flights under new head coach Alexandra Starkova.
 
Gudovskaya squared off against Sam Houston's Sara Sadadinovic and made quick work of the Bearkat. Gudovskaya jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the first set and rode that momentum into the second. Gudovskaya finished off her opponent, 6-1, to secure the title.
 
Gudovskaya teamed up with newcomer Jevrosima Mitic to advance to the finals of the doubles Purple draw. Now 3-0 to start the season, the LU duo ousted Sam Houston's Anamaria Kurtsikashvili and Veronika Muzichenko, 6-2.
 
The 6-2 victory put LU in the finals against the hometown team of Martina Acebedo Bonocore and Arina Grigoriadou. Despite playing in front of their home fans, it wasn't enough to get NSU over the hump as Lamar held on to win a thriller, 7-6 (7-2).
