BEAUMONT, Texas — Four former Lamar University pitchers are excelling in the minor leagues.

Brooks Caple, who played at Lamar from 2023-24, is ranked the No. 14 prospect in the Chicago Cubs organization, according to MLB.com.
A former ninth-round pick, Caple has split time this season between High-A South Bend and Double-A Knoxville.
He is 5-1 with a 2.58 ERA in 11 appearances, including 10 starts, with 57 strikeouts in 52.1 innings.
Caple opened the season at South Bend, posting a 3-1 record with a 2.89 ERA in four April starts, striking out 24 over 18.2 innings.
He struck out nine over 5.2 innings in a two-hit effort during a 5-1 win against the Beloit Sky Carp on April 14. He also tossed a one-hitter over five innings, striking out seven without allowing an earned run in a 13-1 victory against the Peoria Chiefs on April 8.
He continued that consistency into May, recording 25 strikeouts in five appearances, including four starts, across 23.2 innings with a 2.28 ERA.
Caple struck out seven and allowed four hits over five innings against the Chattanooga Lookouts on May 31.
Most recently, he fanned seven over five innings to help Knoxville to a 4-3 win against the Montgomery Biscuits on June 14.
In just two years in the minor leagues, Caple has posted an 11-10 record with a 3.82 ERA in 31 starts and 150.2 innings pitched with 131 strikeouts.
During the 2025 season, he split time between South Bend and Single-A Myrtle Beach.
Caple arrived in Beaumont after spending two seasons at Stephen F. Austin.
He was named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2024 after going 7-3 with a 2.40 ERA and 102 strikeouts.

Jack Dallas played at Lamar from 2018-22, finishing his career as the program's all-time leader in saves with 28.
An undrafted free agent, Dallas has spent five seasons in the minor leagues after debuting with Single-A Clearwater.
He is 1-0 with a 4.45 ERA in 20 appearances, recording 26 strikeouts over 28.1 innings.
Dallas has been especially effective in June, posting a 1.29 ERA across five appearances with 10 strikeouts in seven innings while allowing just two hits and one earned run.
He struck out three over 1.1 hitless innings to record his fifth hold in a 7-5 win by Reading against the Portland Sea Dogs on June 9.
In May, Dallas made seven appearances, going 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA and seven strikeouts in 11 innings.
He also recorded nine strikeouts over 10.1 innings in eight appearances in April.
For his minor league career, Dallas is 16-7 with a 2.90 ERA, eight saves and 213 strikeouts in 140 appearances spanning 207.2 innings.
In 2025, he pitched in the Arizona Fall League with the Surprise Saguaros, making four appearances and recording 15 strikeouts over nine innings.
He also competed in the Fall Stars Game as a member of the National League Fall Stars.
Dallas, a local product from West Orange-Stark, recorded seven saves in 2023 with Single-A Clearwater and went 7-2 with a 2.80 ERA at High-A Jersey Shore.

Peyton Havard, a native of Bridge City, is pitching for the Single-A Clearwater Threshers.
An undrafted free agent, Havard played at Lamar from 2024-25 after two seasons at UL Lafayette.
He is 1-1 in 12 appearances, recording 27 strikeouts over 26 innings.
Havard recorded 13 strikeouts in four appearances in April and added 10 strikeouts in five outings in May.
He earned his first win May 10 against the Daytona Tortugas, striking out five over three innings while allowing two hits and one earned run.
Havard finished his final season at Lamar with a 7-2 record, a 2.73 ERA, five saves and 79 strikeouts across 22 appearances, including five starts, earning second-team All-Southland Conference honors.

Taken in the 16th round of the 2025 MLB Draft,
Riely Hunsaker opened the season in the Arizona Complex League before being assigned to Myrtle Beach in early April.
Hunsaker has made 13 appearances, including one start, recording one save, one hold and 34 strikeouts over 32.1 innings.
He earned his first save May 7, tossing two hitless, scoreless innings with one strikeout in a 9-7 win against the Hickory Crawdads.
In April, Hunsaker recorded 15 strikeouts across five appearances spanning 11 innings. He followed with 11 strikeouts over 15.1 innings in May.
He picked up his first hold April 7, allowing one hit with five strikeouts over three innings to preserve a 5-1 win against the Columbia Fireflies.
Hunsaker finished his final season at Lamar with a 4-3 record and a 2.47 ERA in 14 starts, recording 70 strikeouts and earning first-team All-Southland Conference honors.
He arrived in Beaumont after one season at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in 2024.
