Cardinals Record Split on Second Day in New York

| By:
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Lamar University got out to a rough start Sunday morning in the first match but battled back in the afternoon contest to record a split. The Cardinals dropped a 4-2 match against Army in the morning but came right back to post a 5-1 decision over Hofstra in the evening match.

The contest against the Black Knights saw courts 1 and 2 singles go to a third set but the three-setter on court 1 was halted with the fourth point was scored. Unfortunately, LU was leading in the third set on that court.

Army won the doubles point taking wins on courts 2 and 3 doubles. The doubles competition was tied at one win each after the team of Maxwell Lindstedt and Leon Nickel recorded a 6-3 decision on court 1.

The Black Knights took a 3-0 lead following victories on courts 3 and 4, but Lamar answered back with victories at Nos. 5 and 6 singles. Sophomore Louis Drapeau got the rally started with a straight-sets decision over Davis McDonald, 6-2, 6-4. It was just a one-point deficit when freshman Vicente Monge followed suit with a 6-2, 7-5, decision over Tucker Culpepper at No. 6.

Unfortunately, the rally would end there as the Black Knights came through with the three-set victory at No. 2 singles.

In the second match, Big Red left no doubt posting a 5-1 decision over Hofstra. The two teams opened with singles and Lamar jumped on the gas early taking an early 3-0 lead and never looked back. Lindstedt recorded the deciding point with a 6-1, 6-0 decision for the overall win. The Pride eventually got on the scoreboard with a three-set victory at No. 2 singles but the team decision had already been decided.

The Cardinals return to action Monday when they take on Bryant. The match against Bryant will begin at noon.
