FRISCO, Texas – Lamar University first baseman
Cala Wilson has earned the program's first Southland Conference Hitter of the Week honor after leading the Cardinals to four victories last week. For Wilson, it's her first career weekly achievement.
Wilson (Ruston, La.) batted .533 (8-of-15) for the week with two homers, two triples and 10 RBIs during LU's four games. She drove in the first run of LU's 8-0 win over Texas State, which was ranked No. 3 in the D1Softball.com mid-major rankings. Wilson followed that up with a seven-hit, nine-RBI series against East Texas A&M. She set the tone Friday with a career-high five RBIs in Game 1, which included a homer and a triple for a 13-8 win. Saturday saw Wilson record five more hits and four RBIs to lead the Cardinals to a doubleheader series sweep.
Wilson is currently among the top five in the conference in RBIs (31), doubles (10), triples (three) and home runs (seven). She is second on the team with a .347 batting average and is tied for the team lead with 35 hits.
The Cardinals are 17-15 entering the week and will be hosting Houston Tuesday at the LU Softball Complex. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 5:30 p.m.
