Cardinals Return to SLC Play

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – In the midst of a five-match road swing, the Lamar University women's tennis team will travel to New Orleans, La., Saturday as it returns to Southland Conference play. The Cardinals head to New Orleans looking to make it two wins in a row.

The Cardinals enter the weekend showdown a win over .500 on the season but still looking for their first Southland victory (7-6/0-3 SLC). Big Red appears to be breaking out of a small slump that saw them drop three straight before a thrilling victory at historic Division II powerhouse St. Mary's.

The Privateers are 6-4 (.600) overall but are also looking for their first conference win (0-2). UNO has dropped four straight entering Saturday. LU holds a slim 12-10 (.545) overall record against New Orleans, with a 3-5 (.375) mark when the two teams meeting Big Easy. The Cardinals have won three of the previous four meetings including a three-point decision last year in Beaumont. Saturday's contest is set for a 1 p.m. start at the Privateer Tennis Courts.

Lamar will then hit the road Monday for an 11 a.m. showdown against Nicholls. The Colonels are looking to right the ship after a tough start to the season. Nicholls is 3-6 (.333) overall with a 0-2 mark in conference play. Lamar holds an impressive 21-7 (.750) all-time series record against Nicholls, a mark that jumps to 10-3 (.769) when the two teams meet in Thibodaux. Monday's contest is set for an 11 a.m. start from the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.
