Box Score BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University sophomores
Luana Paiva and
Asta Miettinen picked up singles victories but LU struggled to tack on anymore wins falling to McNeese, 5-2, Saturday afternoon at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
McNeese grabbed the early lead by taking all three double matches but the battle came right down to the wire on courts 1 and 3, with the Cowgirls taking one match in a tiebreaker and the second in 12 games.
McNeese pushed its advantage to 3-0 before the Cardinals got on the scoreboard at No. 3 singles. Mietinnen defeated the Cowgirls' Stella Rundova, 6-2, 6-1, to trim the deficit to two, 3-1. Unfortunately, McNeese followed with victories at Nos. 6 and 5 singles, respectively, before Paiva tacked on the final victory at No. 2 singles.
The LU women return to the courts Monday to face Southeastern Louisiana. The match against the Lions is set for an 11 a.m. start from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
