BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University was impressive Saturday sweeping a doubleheader against Dillard University. Big Red won the first match 7-0 and came back in the afternoon contest to post a 4-0 decision. The Cardinals improved to 6-0 with the wins.
The Cardinals recorded four shutout sets in the opening match and two more in the second.
The Cardinals took the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles in the first match and never looked back. As the two teams moved to singles, the Cardinals got consecutive wins from
Asta Miettinen (No. 4 singles) and
Arina Gudovskaya (No. 1) – both wins were in straight sets. The 3-0 lead proved to be insurmountable as Lamar closed out the match with four singles wins.
LU followed the same script in the second match after switching up its lineup – taking the first two doubles matches for the opening score and then post overwhelming individual performances in singles.
The Cardinals will be back in action Saturday when they open Southland play against McNeese. The match against the Cowgirls will begin at 1 p.m. from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
