FRISCO, Texas —
Chris Olivier's masterful pitching performance in Game 1 against Oakland University earned him Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week honors, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Olivier retired his first 19 batters as he took a perfect game into the top of the seventh.
He tallied 14 strikeouts and did not walk a single batter while he allowed one hit, helping the Cardinals notch an 8-2 win.
Olivier struck out every leadoff batter he faced while he induced five groundouts and only one batter managed to loft a ball out of the infield on a fly out to center.
He finished three strikeouts shy of tying the single game program record of 17 set by Clay Hensley in 2002.
Olivier matched the third highest strikeout total in a single game in program history, tying the most recent tally recorded by Will Hibbs in 2016.
It marked the first time an LU pitcher tallied 13 or more strikeouts in a game since
Braxton Douthit in 2022.
LU has had seven pitchers earn weekly honors from the Southland Conference since 2023.
Olivier also received national attention from D1baseball.com, landing a spot on its Weekend 1 Top Performers: Top 100 Pitchers list.
He tallied the most strikeouts of any pitcher on the list, finishing ahead of Oklahoma's L.J. Mercurius, Auburn's Jake Marciano and Florida Gulf Coast's Evan Dempsey, who all had 12 strikeouts in their respective outings.
