BOSTON, Mass. - Junior
Ashton Rainey broke Lamar University's 5,000-meter record as the other half of Lamar University's split squad competed in the two-day David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University.
The Ocean Spring, Miss., native ran in the sixth heat of the event and would round out the top 40 with a time of 16:17.81. This would not only shatter her personal best by a minute, but also eclipse the previous record, held by
Nia Clatworthy in 2024 (16.27.81) by 10 seconds.
Luke Parker ran 20th in the men's 800m dash with a time of 1:51.81. This is a new personal best for Parker and is .27 seconds off the all-time mark held by Hall of Honor inductee Joe Wade.
Jonathan Rivera (8:20.33) and
Andres Padron (8:44.71) competed in the men's 3,000m and placed 130th and 201st, respectively.
Hannah Roberts competed in the mile run and placed 171st with a time of 5:06.43.
The Cardinals will turn their attention to the Southland Conference Indoor Championships held in Birmingham, Ala. The meet will take place on Feb. 25-Feb. 26th.
