BEAUMONT, Texas – Off to a hot start, Lamar University is 4-1 (.800) on the season after winning its past four matches. The Cardinals will now put that win streak to the test with road matches at Arkansas State (Feb. 14 – 11 a.m.) and Southern Mississippi (Feb. 16 – 11 a.m.).
The Cardinals have been riding a wave of momentum after wins against Sam Houston, Jackson State and Lubbock Christian (doubleheader). The Red Wolves are 1-3 (.250) on the season but Mother Nature has impacted their schedule already this year with one cancelation. ASU is coming off a 4-2 decision at Memphis on Sunday but will face Tennessee State before hosting Lamar.
The two schools have met 17 times in series history with the Red Wolves holding a 6-11 (.353) all-time record but the Cardinals are 2-2 (.500) all-time against Arkansas State in Jonesboro. The series between the two schools dates back to the 1993 season.
The Cardinals will then be in Hattiesburg, Miss., two days later to face Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles will open their 2026 season Friday with three matches over a four-day span. The Cardinals will be the third of the three contests as the Golden Eagles will take on Jackson State (Friday, 2 p.m.), Sam Houston (Saturday, 1 p.m.) and Lamar Monday at 11 a.m. Southern Miss is looking to bounce back from a 5-13 (.278) campaign a year ago that saw the Golden Eagles record a 1-10 (.091) mark in conference matches.
Lamar is 4-2 (.667) all-time against the Golden Eagles with the majority of that success coming in Hattiesburg. Big Red is 3-1 (.750) all-time against Southern Miss at the USM Tennis Complex.
The Cardinals will be back home Saturday, Feb. 21, for a doubleheader against Dillard University. The first match will begin at 10 a.m. with the second match of the doubleheader set for 2 p.m.
