Drones Breaks Two School Records at Howie Ryan Invitational

HOUSTON, Texas - Kyndall Drones broke two school records in the weight throw and shot put as Lamar University competed at the Howie Ryan Invitational Friday at Bill Yeoman Fieldhouse. The Cardinals collected 13 top-five finishes as a team. 
 
Drones started her day in the weight throw as she finished fourth with a toss of 17.94 meters (58-10.25). The previous record holder in the shot put was Glennis Woolridge (17.50m/57-5) back in 2024. Drones then became the first ever female Cardinal in an indoor season to toss a shot put over 47 feet when she launched hers at 14.51m (47-07.25). This bested her previous mark of 13.91m (45-7.75). 
 
Alex Williams III claimed third in the men's weight throw with a season-high toss of 18.27m (59-11.25). Krystan Bright had to qualify for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles by clocking in at 8.62 seconds. Once in the finals, she established a new season-best of 8.46 seconds to earn third place. This is the third fastest time in program history. 
 
The 400m dash saw two medalists in Ethan Ellis (48.56), who earned silver in the men's circuit and Kayla Smith (56.28), who took the bronze in the women's circuit. Ke'Asia Hall finished third in the triple jump competition as she set a personal-best mark of 11.98m (39-03.75).  The 4x400 relay teams added two top-three finishes as the women (Aryssa Rodriguez, Bright, Chantell Bowman, Smith) placed second at 3:51.06, while the men (Bryson Champagne, Ellis, Tyler Minter, Davis Wenthe) took third at 3:16.70.
 
 
The Cardinals will turn their attention to the Southland Conference Indoor Championships held in Birmingham, Ala. The meet will take place on Feb. 25-Feb. 26th.
