BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's tennis team will open the home portion of its schedule Sunday when they step on the court for a doubleheader against Lubbock Christian. The showdown is also a scheduled men's and women's doubleheader as the LU men will also take on LCU.
The Cardinals will step on the court looking for their third-straight win after consecutive victories over Sam Houston and Jackson State. To extend their streak, the Cardinals will have to go through a very tough LCU squad who is historically one of the top NCAA Division II programs in the country and has a history of recording wins over NCAA Division I schools.
The Chaparrals open the season with an exhibition contest against No. 2 Texas A&M in College Station. LCU put up a strong fight on each individual court but fell 7-0. The contest against Lamar will mark the second and third of four against Division I schools as LCU will be in Lake Charles the following day to take on McNeese.
Sunday's doubleheader is slated to begin at 11 a.m. from the Thompson Family Tennis Center. The second match is set for a 4 p.m. start.
