Cards Compete in Robert Platt Invitational's First Day

HOUSTON, Texas - Eloise Duboscq finished fourth in the women's pentathlon with 3,552 points as Lamar University opened the first day at the Robert Platt Invitational hosted by Houston Friday at Bill Yeoman Fieldhouse.
 
Duboscq won three of the five events, including the high jump (1.59m/5-2.50), the shot put (11.85m/38-10.50) and the long jump (5.56m/18-3.30). She also recorded top 10 finishes in the 60-meter hurdles (8.99) and the 800m run (2:42.17).
 
John Sanderson, Krystan Bright, Aryssa Rodriguez, Aaliyah Booker and Amber Simpson each placed in the top 24 of the 60m hurdles to advance to the semifinals. Sanderson finished seventh with a time of 8.12 seconds. He also qualified for the semifinals in the 60m with a time of 6.99, which got him 22nd. Bright (8.76) and Rodriguez (8.90) both set new personal bests to finish 11th and 16th, respectively, while Booker ran nine seconds flat to place 20th and Simpson (9.02) finished 22nd.
 
Kyndall Drones and Xiomara Rodriguez each finished in the top five of the women's weight throw. Drones recorded a toss of 16.95m (55-07.50) to place fourth, while Xiomara set a new personal best of 16.57m (54-04.50) and earned fifth. The latter's throw is now the third-furthest toss in program history.
 
Ethan Ellis completed the men's 400m in fourth place with a time of 49.01. In her first-ever mile run, Hannah Roberts placed second in her heat (5:12.67) and came within two-and-a-half seconds of first place.
 
The second day of this event will commence Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
