BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University and Sam Houston have agreed to move their match from Friday to Thursday in anticipation of potential freezing weather hitting southeast Texas over the weekend. The two schools were originally slated to play Friday in Huntsville before the change. The rescheduled match will begin at 2 p.m.
Thursday's contest will serve as the second match of the season for both teams. Big Red opened the year with a loss at Rice, while the Bearkats dropped a 7-0 decision at No. 2 Texas A&M Sunday.
The Bearkats are in a similar position to Lamar as they are also trying to build from a five-win season last year. Thursday's match is one of three away from Beaumont to start the year before the Cardinals return home. Lamar will kick off the home schedule with a doubleheader against Lubbock Christian Sunday, Feb. 1
st.
Lamar leads the all-time series over Sam Houston – a former Southland Conference foe – 24-11 (.686). Big Red has seen a good deal of success in Huntsville as well posting a 10-6 (.625) mark on the road. LU has won two of the past three meetings but dropped a 4-0 decision in Beaumont last season.
