Alex Williams III claimed the men's weight throw title while sophomore
Kyndall Drones broke her own school record in the indoor shot put Friday as several throwers competed in the McNeese Indoor meet at the Ralph Ward Rec Complex. In all, the Cardinals collected nine top-five finishes, including one first, three seconds and two thirds.
For the men, Williams III finished with a throw of 17.39 meters (57-1.0), which edged out second place by two inches. He then placed third in the shot put (15.79m/51-9.75), while teammate
Tre Richardson took second (16.37m/53-8.5) to be the highest collegiate athlete in the event.
Darwin Bolden's weight throw mark of 14.91m (48-11.00) landed him in fifth place.
For the women, Drones established the school-record throw of 13.54m (44-5.0) on her first attempt in the shot put, which bested the previous mark of 13.42m (44-0.5), which she set last week at the Leonard Hilton Memorial, and earned her second place ahead of
Kyra Davis (12.96m/42-6.25), who finished third. Later, Drones placed second in the weight throw (16.33m/53-7.0) while Sophia Saldutto and
Taylor Waters both tied for fourth at 14.86m (48-9.00).
The Cardinals will head to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational Friday, Jan. 23rd. The meet will take place in Albuquerque, N.M., on the University of New Mexico campus.
