Lauren Smith Claims Southland Offensive Honors

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas - Lauren Smith's record-tying four-goal performance in Lamar's 11-0 win against Texas A&M-San Antonio has earned the program its first Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors. The honor, which was announced by the conference office Tuesday morning, is the first of her career.

In 25 minutes of action, Smith scored four goals on six shots. She posted her first two goals in the eighth and 19th minutes before opening the second half with consecutive goals in the 46th and 49th minutes. This made her the third Cardinal to score four in a single match, joining the club with previous LU greats Lucy Ashworth and Esther Okoronkwo. Her eight points were also the second-highest single-game total behind Ashworth (10). Smith currently leads the conference with six goals and 14 points.

The Cardinals are set to begin conference play Thursday as they will be hosting East Texas A&M for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The match will stream on ESPN+.
