FRISCO, Texas - Lamar University softball players
Veronica Harrison and
Cala Wilson have both been named to the 2025 Academic All-Southland Conference teams, announced league officials Monday. Harrison has been tabbed as a first-team honoree while Wilson is on the second team.
To be honored by the conference for this achievement, student-athletes must obtain a minimum of a 3.25 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) through the semester before the sports' championship, completed at least one semester at the nominating institution in the season in which the nomination occurs and participate in at least 50 percent of the team's games in the position listed.
Harrison (Alvin, Texas) achieved a 3.30 GPA in environmental science. Appearing in all 56 games, she earned the SLC first-team honors for her role as the designated player. Leading the Cardinals with a .352 batting average, she posted 58 hits, 14 doubles, seven homers, and 39 RBIs. Harrison started her season hitting .546 (6-for-11) with five RBIs, one double, and two homers to be named the conference hitter of the week. She wound up recording program top 10 marks in RBIs (67) and homers (nine) while also recording a career-best 10-game hitting streak (Mar. 21-Apr. 5). Among her memorable highlights were a walk-off single against Louisiana Tech (3/2/25) and a two-homer game against Northwestern State (4/11/25).
Wilson (Ruston, La.) was a perfect 4.0 student in general business. In her freshman campaign, she appeared in all 56 games and batted .298 with 51 hits, 35 RBIs, 11 doubles, one triple, and four homers while scoring 24 runs. She set a season-high 11-game hitting streak (Feb. 25-Mar. 12), culminating with a three-hit game in a win over Big XII opponent Baylor. Another three-hit game occurred against Houston Christian (4/17/25), for which she delivered a game-tying grand slam. Earning SLC defensive team honors at first base, she recorded a fielding percentage of .994 with 16 assists and helped turn 11 double plays.
The Cardinals' 29 wins from this season are the most in the
Amy Hooks era, which included a 15-12 mark in conference play. LU made the conference tournament for the third-straight season and reached the tournament semifinals.
