Cardinals Add Scoring Punch in Quinton Sanders

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – Quinton Sanders (6-3, 175, G, Wheatley HS) has joined Lamar University announced head basketball coach Alvin Brooks Thursday afternoon. One of the top players in the city of Houston, Sanders' signing brings the Cardinals current recruiting class to five entering the 2025-26 campaign.

A highly recruited prospect from Houston, Sanders is a four-year letterwinner who filled up the stat sheet during his prep career. He averaged 25.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 5.0 steals and 2.0 blocks per game. He closed out his high school career by earning 4A District MVP and Offensive MVP honors on his way to all-state recognition.

"Quinton is a playmaker," said Brooks. "He is a young man who will provide us with length, speed and quickness at the guard position. I really wanted a younger guy that could play along with our more veteran guys already here and Quinton fits into our core.

"He had a great senior year leading Wheatley – which is also my alma mater – to the state title game. He is an all-city and all-state guard who is a playmaker on both the offense and defensive side of the ball," added Brooks.

Named to the All-Greater Houston team, Sanders was also a finalist for the 2025 Guy V. Lewis Award – which is presented to the best boys' basketball player in the Houston area honoring the legacy of former University of Houston coach Guy V. Lewis.

Sanders guided Wheatley to a 51-14 (.785) overall record and a 28-6 (.824) district mark over the course of the previous two seasons and a spot in the 2025 Texas 4A Division II state championship game as a senior.

A high-level multi-sport athlete, Sanders also found success on the track. He was a key figure in Wheatley's 4x200-meter relay team that won a district title and advanced to the regional finals.

Sanders joins Christian Thomas (November signee), Eian Lowe, Rob Lee, Jr. and King-Njhsanni Wilhite as part of Lamar's 2024-25 signing class. Among the Cardinals' five signees three come via the high school route with two transfers, including Lee who is a four-year transfer.
