Track and Field Going Back to Houston for Tom Tellez Invite

BEAUMONT, Texas - After finding success in two meets last week, Lamar University will head back to Houston to compete in the University of Houston's Tom Tellez Invitational. This will be a two-day event that will start on Friday and run through Saturday.
 
Along with Houston, LU is one of eight schools competing in the meet, which includes Houston Christian, Huston-Tillotson, Prairie View A&M, Sam Houston, Texas, and Texas Southern. The meet opens Friday with the field events starting at 12:30 p.m., while the running events get set to take off at 2 p.m.
 
LU brought home four individual titles from the Texas Relays. Freddy Richardson won the men's 1,500 meters with a time of 3.45.58. He would go from seventh at the midway point to move up six spots, which included an sub-58 second final lap to win the race. Both Ashton Rainey (35.34.79) and Lloyd Sheppard Brown (30:02.85) each claimed the 10,000m event while Kayli Johnson claimed the long jump with a mark of 5.82m (19'1.25").
 
Other Cardinals, who weren't in Austin, competed in the Victor Lopez Invitational hosted by Rice University. Alex Williams II and Ke'Asia Hall recorded two top five finishes. Williams III placed second in the discus (47.60m-156'02") and fifth in the hammer throw (54.79m-179'9") while Hall was third in the long jump (7.14m-23'5.25") and fourth in the triple jump (11.50m-37'8.75"). Xiomara Rodriguez, in her first career meet, set a school record in the women's discus with a throw of 48.03m (157'7"), which got her second place.
