BEAUMONT, Texas – It has been a tough regular-season campaign for the Lamar University Cardinals but LU has a chance to end things on a high note. The Cardinals (3-17/0-7 SLC) close the year with a two-match homestand beginning Friday with a contest against New Orleans followed by Nicholls coming to town Monday.
The Cardinals enter the weekend looking to get back in the win column Saturday when they face New Orleans in an afternoon match. The Privateers are 5-10 (.333) on the season and 1-6 (.143) in Southland Conference play and make their way to Beaumont looking to put an end to a two-match skid in conference play.
The Cardinals hold an 11-10 (.524) all-time record against UNO but are just 4-4 (.500) all-time against the Privateers in Beaumont. Saturday's is slated for a 1 p.m. start from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
Lamar will close out the regular season two days later against Nicholls. The Colonels are 8-11 (.431) overall and 1-6 (.143) in Southland Conference play. Despite the sub-.500 record, the Colonels seem to be playing their best tennis of the season. Nicholls has won consecutive matches and six of their previous seven with the lone loss during that stretch being a five-point setback at McNeese.
The Cardinals are 20-7 (.741) all-time against Nicholls a mark that includes a 10-4 (.714) record in Beaumont. Lamar enters the showdown having won eight straight against the Colonels. Monday's contest will get under way at 11 a.m. from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
