BEAUMONT, Texas - Southland Conference play opens Friday at the LU Softball Complex as Lamar University (11-9, 0-0 SLC) will host Battle of the Border rival McNeese (12-10, 0-0 SLC) this weekend. Friday is a doubleheader that will start at 1 p.m., while Saturday has the first pitch being delivered at noon.

The Cardinals scored 10 runs in the second inning to defeat Texas Southern, 11-0 in five innings.
Veronica Harrison (two RBIs) was the only Cardinal with two hits while she,
Gracee Hess (three), and
Jayne Sepulveda (two) each had multi-RBI games.
Mallory Pitre earned the victory with four shutout innings, six strikeouts, and two hits allowed.

This was the fourth time in program history that the Cardinals scored 10 or more runs in a single inning. LU scored 11 runs against Nicholls (3/15/14) and Abilene Christian (3/14/15). The all-time mark for runs in a single inning is 15 against UIW (4/28/17), which led to a 22-4 victory.
