BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University will look to get back in the win column as it hosts two former Southland Conference foes. Saturday will see the UTSA Roadrunners come to town followed by a Sunday morning tilt against Sam Houston. Both matches are slated to begin at 11 a.m. from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
The Cardinals are 2-2 (.500) on the young season but are coming off a tough 7-0 loss at SMU. Big Red will look to bounce back in a match against the Roadrunners that will see LU play at home for five of the next seven.
Off to its best start in school history, the Roadrunners are 7-0 on the season. UTSA is not only hanging tick marks in the win column, it is doing so in impressive fashion. The Roadrunners have recorded three shutouts already and have outscored opponents, 34-4.
The Cardinals trail the all-time series to UTSA, 13-10, but have played .500 against the 'Runners in Beaumont (6-6). UTSA has won three consecutive in the series and seven of the past 10. The Cardinals step on the court looking for first win against UTSA since 2019.
Sam Houston comes to the Golden Triangle 24 hours later to face Big Red. SHSU is 3-2 (.600) on the season and is coming off a 7-0 loss at No. 2 Texas A&M. The all-time series between the two schools dates back to the 1994 season with Lamar holding a 24-10 (.706) overall record.
