BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's tennis team returns home Saturday to open Southland Conference play against the league's other Cardinals – UIW. It has been a tough stretch for the Red and White due to a rash of injuries. The Cardinals (2-7) will step on the court looking to put a stop six-match slide which began.
It's been a similar story for UIW who is 2-6 (.250) and make their way to the Golden Triangle having dropped three consecutive matches.
Lamar's version of the Cardinals lead the all-time series, 6-3 (.667) including two wins in three matches in Beaumont but UIW has had the upper hand recently. San Antonio's Cardinals have won the last two matches by identical 5-2 decisions, and UIW has won three of the last five contests.
Saturday's match is slated to begin at 1 p.m. from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
The Cardinals will then turn right back around Wednesday afternoon and host St. Mary's (TX). Lamar enters Wednesday looking for its first win over the Rattlers having just met twice with the previous meeting coming in 2004.
