Box Score COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Lamar University freshman
Lukas Hamacher recorded a resounding 6-3, 6-4 win over No. 9 Texas A&M's Ritesh Patil Sunday afternoon at the Mitchell Tennis Center, but the nationally ranked Aggies would go on to post a 4-1 victory.
Hamacher's win came in straight sets at the No. 4 position and wasn't the only damage Lamar inflicted on the Aggies despite the setback. While the Aggies picked up wins on the other five singles courts and won the doubles point, sophomore
Stefano Chappuis made A&M's Ethan Silva work hard at the No. 5 spot. After dropping the opening set, 6-3, Chappuis battled back to win the second by the same score before the match was halted in the third. Senior
Haruki Omori-Cowie was down just a game in the second set, when the match was halted, after just being edged by the Aggies' Damian Salvestre in the first at the No. 2 spot.
It was a similar situation at No. 2 doubles where the team of freshman
Louis Drapeau and sophomore
Leon Nickel trailed the Aggies' Matthis Ross and Patil by just a game when the match was halted.
The Cardinals return home Friday to kick off a six-match homestand. The first match will be against Oral Roberts Friday at 1 p.m. from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
