BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University (3-1) is off to its best start in program history since the return of softball program in 2013. The Cardinals' play has earned national recognition as they are ranked 23rd in the first D1Softball.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll. This marks the first time in program history that LU has been ranked in the top 25.

The Cardinals enter the poll ahead of 24th New Mexico State and 25th West Georgia while trailing 22nd Campbell. LU is one of two Texas schools in the top 25 along with 20th-ranked North Texas and the lone representative from the Southland Conference.

LU came off a weekend where it swept UL Monroe in a doubleheader and defeated St. John's before coming up short to No. 1 Texas at the LU Softball Complex. The Cardinals are back home hosting five games beginning Thursday (non-conference vs. Nicholls) followed by two against Missouri State Friday and Sunday and two Saturday contests with Tulsa and No. 6 Tennessee.
