FRISCO, Texas - Lamar University sophomore Veronica Harrison has been tabbed as the Southland Conference's first Hitter of the Week for the 2025 season announced Monday afternoon. The award comes after Harrison led the Cardinals to their best start in program history with a 3-1 record over the weekend.
 
Harrison hit .545 (6-for-11) in the four games with five RBIs, one double, and two homers. She recorded two hits in each of LU's victories over UL Monroe with an RBI double in game one and a two-run homer in game two. Harrison added two more hits against No. 1 Texas, including a solo homer in the seventh inning in their lone setback.
 
Big Red will be back in action at home Thursday to open the I-10 Border Classic. Lamar will play five games over a three-day stretch opening with a non-conference game against Nicholls Thursday at 6 p.m. The Cardinals will also host Missouri State, Tulsa, and nationally-ranked Tennessee.
