HAMMOND, La. – The Lamar University tennis team wrapped up its fall schedule with a three-day tournament in Hammond, La., over the weekend competing in the George E. Fourmaux Fed Cup. The Cardinals posted a 3-1 record in their four matches closing the tournament with wins over LSU-Alexandria, 3-2, and Louisiana Christian, 4-1.
The Cardinals got a doubles victory from the duo of
Asta Miettinen and
Savannah Bijlsma and singles wins from
Luana Paiva and
Martina Alcaino to get passed LSU-A and then came back with an impressive three-point victory over Louisiana Christian. Alcaino teamed up with
Lera Zaginayko for the doubles win against Louisiana Christian, while the singles wins came from Miettinen, Paiva and Bijlsma.
The tournament, which was hosted by Southeastern Louisiana, is the last of five fall tournaments for the Cardinals. Big Red will turn its attention to the preparation for the start of the spring season.
