NATCHITOCHES, La. – Junior
Leon Nickel advanced to Saturday's championship match of the Southland Fall Masters tournament against top overall top-seed Alejandro Hernandez (UIW) but Nickel was unable to get past the other Cardinals' top player.
Nickel fell in straight sets by the score of 6-3, 6-2. Despite the loss, Nickel becomes the first Lamar Cardinal to advance to the singles championship of the SLC Fall Masters.
The Cardinals will now take the rest of the fall semester off to prepare for the start of the spring season which gets underway Saturday, Jan. 10, against Mississippi State in Dallas, Texas.
