COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Similar to Friday's opening round of action, the Lamar University men's tennis team came out swinging Saturday in the first round of doubles matches at the ITA Regional Championships hosted by Texas A&M. The Cardinals posted a 3-1 (.750) mark in the opening round including two wins in a tiebreak.
The duo of junior
Leon Nickel and freshman
Rintaro Shukuda edged out UIW's Marcel Miralles and Agustin Salazar, 8-7 (8-6). In similar fashion,
Maxwell Lindstedt and
Fabian Anthin recorded an 8-7 (9-7) victory over UT Rio Grande Valley's Sam Whitehead and Loic Young to advance.
Freshman
Axel Bergh and senior
Guy Dagan had very little trouble in their opening-round match defeating UT Arlington's Saul Berdullas and Jesse Gothelf, 8-4.
Unfortunately, the Cardinals struggled to advance out of the second round of action with all three teams falling short in their round of 32. The ITA Championships continue Sunday with more singles competition. Tournament play is slated to get under way at 9 a.m.
