COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Lamar University men's tennis team got out to a strong start in the opening round of the 2025 ITA Regional Championships Friday in College Station, Texas. The Cardinals recorded a 4-3 record, a mark which could have been even better but senior Guy Dagan was forced to retire late in the third set of his match when it was tied headed into the 13^th game.
 
After Dagan's heartbreaking exit, sophomore Louis Drapeau got the Red and White on the board with his straight-sets decision over Abilene Christian's Ford Elizondo. Following a close first set, 7-5, Drapeau cruised to the victory with a 6-0 decision in the second.
 
After receiving a first-round bye, sophomore Fabian Anthin was dominant throughout in his set against UT Rio Grande Valley's Will Roberts. Anthin posted a 6-1, 6-2 win. He will now face UTRGV's Ivo Isqueiro in Saturday's third round of action.
 
Sophomore Lukas Hamacher added to the Cardinals' win total with his 6-3, 6-4 decision over UTRGV's Eduardo Niederle de Abreu e Menezes.
