Cardinals Head North for Non-Conference Tilt

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – After sweeping a doubleheader in the home opener, the Lamar University women's tennis team now hits the road for a match at SMU. The Cardinals are set to square off against the Mustangs at 10 a.m. from the Styslinger – Altec Tennis Complex in Dallas.

The Cardinals were impressive in their home opener outscoring Alcorn State, 10-1, in the two matches (the two teams played a clinch match in the second contest). Lamar recorded 19 sets where they surrendered two, or fewer, games in a set including four shutout sets.

The Mustangs are 1-3 (.250) on the year and have dropped three straight since a season-opening victory over Abilene Christian, but SMU has faced a very tough non-conference schedule. The Mustangs have been on the road to face No. 21 Vanderbilt, Arkansas and Clemson. One of their three losses (vs. Arkansas) was by a single point.

The Mustangs have a roster, highlighted by three seniors, as they look to get back to the NCAA Championships where they advanced to the second round last season before falling to No. 1 overall seed Oklahoma State.

Following the match against SMU, the Cardinals make the trip back down I-45 for contests against UTSA and Sam Houston. Those matches will be played at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
