Women’s Tennis Hosts Alcorn State

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – Less than 48 hours after opening the home portion of it schedule, the Lamar University women's tennis team returns to Beaumont to kick start the home portion of the schedule. The Cardinals (0-1) will host Alcorn State in a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. The second half of the doubleheader is slated for a 2 p.m. start from the Thompson Family Tennis Center.

The Cardinals are 0-1 after dropping their season-opener Thursday at Rice, but LU returns home for a favorable portion of the schedule that will see them home for four of the next five.

While the Cardinals have a match under their belt already, Friday will serve as the season opener for Alcorn. The Lady Braves are looking to build on a 5-16 (.238) campaign a year ago where they posted a 3-6 conference record just missing out on the conference tournament.

Big Red kicks off its' home schedule also looking to build from last year. The Cardinals posted a 9-15 overall (.375) record last season advancing to the Southland Conference tournament as the No. 8 overall seed.

Following Saturday's doubleheader, the Cardinals will travel to SMU before returning home to host former Southland Conference foes UTSA and Sam Houston.
