BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University cross country runner
Nia Clatworthy has been named Southland Conference Women's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year announced the league officials Friday. This is the second consecutive year she has received the honor.
Nominees are voted upon by an awards committee, which consists of an administrator from each institution. To qualify for this honor, a student had to achieve and maintain 3.5 cumulative grade point average and completed one semester of athletic competition at the nominating institution. Student-athletes must also be a starter or significant contributor to the team who participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions.
Clatworthy (Porthcawl, Wales) achieved a 3.87 GPA while majoring in economics. She finished in the top 20 in all five meets this season with three top three finishes. Clatworthy took second at both the Cowboy Jamboree, which earned her SLC Runner of the Week, and the SLC Cross Country Championships, for which she received first team all-conference honors. Clatworthy led LU to a second straight conference title and later earned NCAA South Central All-Region honors after placing 14th in the meet.
