FRISCO, Texas – After recording a no-hitter on Friday night, Lamar University softball pitcher
Karyana Mitchell was awarded her second Southland Conference pitcher of the week award this year.
In three appearances, Mitchell notched a win along with 0.00 ERA in 11 innings of work. She allowed just two runs, both unearned, on only one hit while striking out nine batters. Against Sam Houston, she got the start and pitched 4.1 innings before exiting with an apparent ankle injury. LU would go on to win the game 3-2.
This did not seem to deter her, however, as her next start in Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader at Texas A&M-Commerce saw her throw a run-rule no-hitter in five innings allowing just one walk on only 56 pitches in the 10-0 Cardinal victory. She then recorded the final five outs in Saturday's 5-0 win over the Lions extending her streak of batters faced without a hit to 34.
Mitchell's performances this week are part of LU's current five-game win streak to bring their record to 21-10 on the season and 8-1 in conference play which is good for first place in the Southland. The Cardinals travel to San Antonio to take on UTSA on Tuesday at 4 p.m. before a home series against Nicholls starting on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the LU Softball Complex.
