Cardinals Set to Open Four-Match Homestand

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas – Fresh off their Southland Conference victory at Nicholls, the Lamar University women's tennis team (8-7/1-2 SLC) returns to the Golden Triangle to open a pivotal four-match homestand of which three will be Southland Conference tilts.

The Cardinals will host Northwestern State Saturday at 11 a.m. The Demons are 8-4 (.667) on the season and 1-0 in conference play. Northwestern State has split its previous four contests but is coming off a 4-0 victory over Stephen F. Austin two weeks ago (NSU has had two matches canceled due to weather).

The all-time series between the two schools dates back to the 1993 season with NSU holding the upper hand, 18-12. Lamar is just a victory under .500 at home against the Demons, 5-6.

The Cardinals will then have three days to prepare for a non-conference contest against Fordham. The Rams come to town Tuesday for a 2 p.m. match and sporting a 6-5 (.455) overall record. Fordham has won consecutive matches and three of its past four as it heads south. Tuesday's meeting will be the first on the court between the two schools.

The Cardinals will open the following week, and close the homestand, with Southland contests against McNeese and Southeastern Louisiana. The match against SLU has been moved from Mar. 25 to April 1st at 1 p.m.

All home matches will be played at the Thompson Family Tennis Center and are free to the public.
