BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University's Arely Alaniz and Isela Ramirez have been named All-Southland Conference announced league officials Monday afternoon. Alaniz received first-team honors while Ramirez garnered second-team recognition.

This is the third straight season that Alaniz has been named to the first-team squad. A graduate from Deer Park, Alaniz played in and started 16 games this season. Alaniz was on the field for 1,359 minutes, including two stretches where she wasn't subbed out in six consecutive games. She scored a goal against Rice and dished out an assist against Sam Houston to earn her second SLC Defender of the Week honor. Alaniz recorded three more assists including two in a 5-2 victory over Texas A&M-Commerce. An anchor on defense, Alaniz led the charge that saw Big Red record six shutouts on the season.

Ramirez played in 16 games earning 12 starts in 1,106 minutes of action. This marks the third all-conference honor for the senior from Pflugerville after earning first team spots the last two seasons. It also marks the fourth straight year she was all-conference as in 2021, she earned second team all-conference from the Western Athletic Conference. She scored four goals, including a pair against Nicholls while tallying an assist against Commerce. Second on the team with nine points, Ramirez currently ranks in the program's top 10 in points (7th; 51), goals (T6th; 19), game-winning goals (T8th; five), shots on goal (T10th; 54), and assists (T7th; 13).

Since head coach Nathan Kogut took over the job in 2022, the Cardinals have received 19 all-conference honors (14 first team, five second team). In addition, the Cardinals had received two goalkeepers of the year, two defenders of the year, one midfielder of the year, and one player of the year. Kogut was also twice named SLC Coach of the Year.

The Cardinals finished the regular season 5-7-6 overall and clinched the seventh seed in the upcoming conference tournament with a 3-3-4 league record. LU will open the first round against second seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 7:00 p.m Tuesday. Should LU advance, it will take on either No. 3 A&M-Commerce or No. 6 UIW Thursday, Nov. 7th at 7:00 p.m.
