LU Soccer Earning National & Conference Awards

| By:
BEAUMONT, Texas - As Lamar's soccer team gets set to take on Houston Christian tonight at the LU Soccer Complex, it has already been a standout week for the Cardinals. It was announced earlier this week that Lamar earned national and conference awards for their recent play on the field. Over course of the past week, the Cardinals have racked up two national player of the week honors, to go along with three Southland Conference Player of the Week accolades. The national awards being Cariel Ellis and Nicole Panis while they and Arely Alaniz were all named conference players of the week.

As far as the Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News awards are concerned, Lamar is currently the only Southland Conference school with winner during the 2023 campaign.

Two weeks ago, Hollie Massey earned LU's first conference offensive player of the week award this season after scoring in both games against Southern and UL Lafayette, which added to her then consecutive streak of three straight games with a goal.

But last week would see the Cardinals elevate to a higher level beginning with an upset win against then #17 Xavier 1-0. Then last Sunday, LU opened conference play with a 2-0 win over UIW, extending the streak of consecutive shutouts to four (and now stands at five).

The Cardinals enter Friday night's showdown 6-2-1 (.722) overall and tied for first in the SLC standings. That is a strong rally for a team that opened the year 1-2-1 before racking up five-straight shutout wins over Tarleton, Southern, UL Lafayette, No. 17 Xavier and UIW.

The Cards will look to continue their win streak as they will take on HCU tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the LU Soccer Complex.
