Cardinals Set to Host Sunday Exhibition with LSU-Eunice

BEAUMONT, Texas - The 2023 season for Lamar University's soccer team has arrived and for the reigning Southland Conference champions, they couldn't be more excited. To kick things off, LU will be hosting LSU-Eunice in an exhibition game tomorrow night at 7:00 P.M at the LU Soccer Complex.

LAST TIME OUT: The Cardinals lost to LSU 3-1 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament to end their 2022 season with a 15-2-2 record.

GREAT LOAD OF RETURNERS: LU returns 16 members from last season's conference championship squad, including SLC Goalkeeper of the Year Nicole Panis, SLC Defender of the Year Arely Alaniz, SLC first-teamers Cariel Ellis, Kaisa Juvonen, and Isela Ramirez, SLC second-teamer Trinity Clark and her twin sister Alana Clark, Kolbi Coleman, Maddie Janolo, Payton Joost, Eva Karen, Annika Kassenbrock, Laura Linares, Hollie Massey, and Madison Rabideau.

FIVE NEW VETERANS: The Cardinals added five transfers to the squad including Rafiatu Alhassan, Caragan Childs, Taylor Conway, Kauany Sousa, and Kaya Williams.

MEET THE YOUNG ONES: The Cardinals welcomed 11 new freshmen in Ayvah Angala, Anne Marie Cabello, Mariana Cardenas, Viviana Duarte, Kamryn Harvey, Kaitlyn Niemeyer, Maddie Rich, Addison Russu, Emmi Sullivan, Riley Wilson, and Emmy Wood.

WATCH THE GOALIE: Nicole Panis was recently selected as one of nine women's NCAA D1 goalkeepers on the United Soccer Coaches (USC) Players to Watch List.


UP NEXT: Big Red will be having their annual Red-White scrimmage next Sunday at 7:00 PM.
