Cardinals Travel to Hammond Before Returning Home for Two

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University women's tennis team will be looking to get back in the win column after a tough conference setback at Northwestern State. Winners in six of their last eight matches, the Cardinals (9-7/1-1 Southland) are entering an important stretch that will see Big Red play three conference matches this week, including two at home.

The Cardinals will open the week Tuesday at Southeastern Louisiana. The match against the Lions is slated to begin at 10 a.m. from the SLU campus. The Lions are 7-7 (.500) on the season and a loss back of Big Red in the conference standings at 1-2. Despite trailing the all-time series, 12-14 (.462) to the Lions, the Cardinals have held their own in Hammond. LU is 7-5 all-time against the Lions on the road. Tuesday's match will begin at 10 a.m.

The Cardinals will then return home to host the Southland's other Cardinals, UIW. San Antonio's version of the Cardinals are off to a strong start on the year. UIW is 12-6 (.667) on the season with a perfect 3-0 league record. The series has favored LU all-time boasting a 6-1 (.857) record in head-to-head matchups. Thursday's match is slated for a 1 p.m. start from the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Complex.

The Cardinals will close out the week Saturday with an 11 a.m. matchup against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Islanders are 17-2 (.895) on the season and 4-0 in conference play and enter the week having won six-straight matches. Saturday's match is set for an 11 a.m. start.
